Koh Samui, a tropical paradise

A Tropical Paradise

Thirty years ago a couple of backpackers stumbled across another Eden. It came in the form of an emerald green orb set amongst a plethora of islands. The white sandy beaches were surrounded by an aquamarine and cobalt blue sea that moved so slowly across the shallow and inviting sands, as a mirror reflecting the colours of the blue sky and white clouds floating above.

Surrounding this tropical paradise are many secluded coves only accessible from the sea. Amongst which the natural eco-system in the form of a coral reef that has survived the test of time continues to flourish with life. Just a few hundred meters off this enchanting shore are many species of fish and mammals. Everything from clown fish to conger eel, blue spotted stingray to turtle and from dolphins to harmless basking whale sharks. A truly wondrous place with such a wide contrast of colours and a vast variety of species living harmoniously.

Moving inland from the shoreline proved difficult as the coconut groves lay stretched out in front of you covered with dense vegetation which added the lush green to the myriad of colours. The only way to travel was by sea, which could prove to be quite an adventure darting in and out of the reefs and coves on beautifully painted, handcrafted wooden boats crewed by local fisherman, skilfully keeping away from the currents that could sweep you out into the expanse known as the South China Sea.

During the following years Koh Samui has attracted millions of visitors from around the world and is no longer a destination solely for peace loving travellers looking for solitude. It now attracts people from all walks of life. Travellers from the world over are now choosing Koh Samui to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere as a break from the stresses of daily life and as an energy source to recharge them infor the challenges of todays hectic modern lifestyle.

The cosmopolitan attitude of today's Koh Samui is very different from thirty years ago. The seclude beaches are still here as are the many beautifully ornate temples and statues, decorated in gold and meticuosly maintained by Buddhist Monks.

Take a ride on an elephant or visit one of the many magical waterfalls that cover the island, as well as the many excursions to the surrounding islands of which there are eighty in the archipelago to explore.

Koh Samui is now very accessible either from the mainland by car ferry or via the Samui Airport, surely one of the worlds most beautiful. Look out for your limousine pick-up because of course it's all part of the service.

All that remains is to come here and relax at arguably the islands most warm and welcoming boutique Resort and Spa Baan Sijan.
